"Man naturally yearns for novelty"

During the team's last survey, posters and stickers were posted as an initiative to indicate households and sari-sari stores practicing proper solid waste segregation.

In accordance to R.A. 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, households surveyed were posted with stickers to easily identify those who practice waste segregation. Among 23 sari-sari stores in Barangay Venus, 21 of them agreed to collect, segregate and sell recyclable items to a local junkshop in the barangay. Signing of social contract was also initated by the medical students to form an agreement between the collector and storeowners.

Environmental Sanitation - Improper Solid Waste Management ranked first amongst 7 identified community health problems in Barangay Venus. Various activities have been done to reach the goal of 100% proper waste segregation including WACS, assemblies, series of lectures & workshops, recycling activities, contests, sack printing, promotion of use of ecobags thru ordinances, construction of recovery facilities, coordination with local junkshops and procurement of plastic shredder & molder.
