It was a sunny day when we visited the Ecological Sanitation Park along with our Municipal Health and Environmental Resource Officer (MENRO), Mr. John Fuerzas. This is in line with our objective on Solid Waste Management, "to improve the disposal of recyclable materials in Barangay Venus, Sergio Osmena Sr., Zamboanga del Norte". Our team thought of addressing the problem from individual households to Materials Recovery Facilities (MRFs) down to the Municipal's dumpsite, which is also located at our barangay, the Ecological Sanitation Park. Together, we have identified existing health problems, the improper waste segregation even within the dumpsite itself and the ecological park personnel not practicing proper occupational safety. Thus, we have come up with a solution to have a seminar-workshop among the workers of the said park to improve their knowledge and practices on waste segregation and occupational safety.
Furthermore, our team also tackled about the pending acquisition of the bioshredder for the recyclable and residual wastes. An ideal vermicompost in the area was also raised during the visit but was accordingly expensive and requires an amount of money.
