One of the low cost intervention in the management of Hypertension is through education about Hypertension: its nature, risk factors, signs and symptoms, complications, emergency measures, prevention and control. Peer support group as the informants of the disease can help in providing information to patients. Moreover, people tend to listen to someone who has the same qualities as they are and serving in a community with hypertension as the leading cause of morbidity makes it more appropriate for the creation and organising a support group for hypertensives. Hence, three individuals who are hypertensives and have high adherence to their medications were picked to be the leaders of each of the purok hypertension support group which is composed of hypertensive patients alike. The group envisions these individuals who will serve as role models to their peers and the members having each other to look out for, work hand in hand to manage their and their disease and prevent unnecessary complications.
Last November 21, 2018, the leaders of
the Purok Hypertension Support group were
gathered and the goal of the formation of such was explained to the
leaders, thereafter a lecture regarding hypertension was given. After the short
lecture, the leaders were invited to ask questions and were then promptly
answered. To assess their knowledge a pre and post test was given.
