Last February 12, 2019,
Barangay Venus marked its 56th founding
anniversary. The barangay has been experiencing its solidarity, harmony, and
peace for more than half a century now.
It was an unforgettable
day for everyone living in Venus, old and young alike. The day started with a
barangay parade around 6am that started from Mamara, Purok Uranus down to
Covered Court, Jupiter. The parade was prearranged by different organisations
in the barangay, the PCA, the Women's org, 4Ps, and Senior Citizens. It was led by the Venus Elementary School's Drum and Lyre corp and the barangay
officials. The Team Venus student doctors added the fun by face-painting the
parade goers!
An opening program emceed by Ma'am Doller was held in the
Barangay Covered Court after the parade. The various organisations had their
own yell to shout every time they got mentioned during the duration of the
program. Snacks were served to quench the people's thirst from the 3-kilometer
parade. Fun intermission numbers from the locals were given, too. Happiness
filled the air, as everyone laughed and sang and danced. Winners of the fun run
activity the group spearheaded on the 10th of February were also acknowledged
to the stage and were awarded with cash prizes.
Not long before lunch time, Mayor
Magsalay, the Vice Mayor Chua, together with with Jon-Jon Jalosjos and the rest
of Sergio Osmeña Sr. board members joined the celebration. The said officials
graced the turn-over ceremony of the following structures: the Daycare Center
in Mamara, Purok Venus, and the Women's Livelihood Center (which was rehabbed
by the team) in Purok Mars. The officials even bought packs and packs of our
Nutri-squash pansit cantons. Around 12pm of the day, everybody ate lunch
together.
Contests on singing and dancing were the activities on the afternoon
of the celebration. Team Venus student doctors was also acknowledged to the
stage for the efforts in making the barangay a better, nicer, and a healthy
place. The night of the Celebration, there was the barangay Disco at the
Covered Court that was opened to everyone.
It was truly an enjoyable day for
the locals of Venus and for the team. Happiness was evident in everybody's
faces, like there is no tomorrow. The love for one another filled the air, and
the barangay's unity was strengthened. Located in the outskirts south of
Zamboanga del Norte, Barangay Venus was founded on Feb 12, 1963. It was one of
the few successfully established barangays of the municipality.
