To decrease the incidence of malnutrition among children five years old and below, the team spearheaded several activities in the barangay. One of these is Venus Master Chefs cooking show which showcased different nutritious recipes that are inexpensive and locally available in the barangay. This provided ideas to mothers with malnourished children on the different meal preparations they can use to help improve the nutritional status of their children.
The
challenge was to prepare dishes good for 2-4persons which highlighted the use
of locally harvested vegetables from
the communal garden as the main ingredient. These dishes include the
following:
•
Appetizer
•
Entrée/Main Course
• Dessert
Two (2) plates for
each dish were prepared per team, one (1) of which was displayed while the
other one (1) was served to the judges for tasting. All the dishes were plated
individually for competition purposes. A
limited time of three (3) hours broken
down into segments was allocated for the entire competition.
The
contest was open to all residents of barangay Venus where there should be one
team per purok composed of 2-4 members
only. Ingredients in the cooking contest were taken from the vegetable
garden per purok. All teams provided their own cooking utensils and materials.
At
the same time, the malnourished children were invited for their first feeding
day. Their mothers were also in the venue to know different meal preparations
which are nutritious and inexpensive.
