Every 10th of October, barangay Venus celebrates Sto. Rosario's feast, their patron saint. And just like any other barangays in the province, people actively participates in fiesta activities and invite guests at their houses to celebrate. Of course, they will never miss practicing religious acts which are the most significant events for the fiesta.
Just as we welcomed October, colorful bantings waved above our heads and large flags filled the highway from left and right. Every night, programs were held in their basketball court such as; gay pageant, basketball games, singing contest, dance contest and the long awaited search for Ms. Venus. We attended the last program held for the fiesta. There were a lot of people watching the program, as well as playing cards and other "perya" games near the area. Aside from the barangay's programs, religious acts were practiced by the community people. Even in our house, owned by the Magallane's family, was visited by a vigil group with the image of Virgin Mary holding a rosary. On the day of fiesta, they started the day by celebrating the Eucharist. The church was filled with families with their newly born children along with them, to have the babies baptized after the mass. On our way home, people were busy along the street wearing their best fiesta dresses. Aside from the people, merchants were also present in the barangay. They were selling bracelets, plastic wears, and customized keychains. Vendors were also busy selling cotton candies, oboy, shake, and ice cream. The group was invited by the barangay captain and barangay midwife to their houses to celebrate the fiesta. It also became our opportunity to chat with them outside school matters.
Our group is lucky because their fiesta falls on community exposure. Such events are really an opportunity to observe the community and establish rapport with them. Though this is our first exposure, we already learned a handfull about the community and met a lot of key personnel because of the said event. The group will always look forward to celebrate the Sto. Rosario's fiest with the conmunity.
